TK and I decided to show some love and get some media from sunday’s drift day hosted by Topps Drift. It was cold as shit but that didn’t stop these drivers from ripping for the first drift day of the season. Where were our cars? Mine is broken and well TK’s is “i dunno”.

First and foremost. I suck at remember peoples cars and names so if I got it wrong I AM SORRY. But seriously, trying to separate who owns which S Chassis is like trying to figure out which Chinese guy has the last name Wang or Dong.

We had a couple of our drivers out today. I switched roles with KSaun today. He was driving mighty hard while I took photos!

He was driving hard! Huge improvement from last year! Unfortunately his day ended due to “Being Too Low and Rubbing Through Wires and Shit” problems.

Riley was being gangster as fuck all day!

He ate some wall later in the day but didn’t stop the gangster. Beard Gangster.

Peter’s car is so photogenic and awesome looking.

This thing is a beast that loves to blow tranny’s! Oh yeah and his transmission went Kaboom that day. Hopefully he gets this thing up and running by next event!

Brent was pretty fun to watch all day. He was driving real good… better than my grammar right now. Fuck making blog posts is hard. No ones probably reading this shit anyway; probably just browsing the pics. haha

Alex upgraded some stuff on the front to make it look cooler and have more drift angle!

The 86′s were out on full force today! Jover’s 86 was out too! Talk about OG. Unfortunately I didn’t even get to snap one pic of it. Oh well, we’ve got the rest of the season to see this thing!

I got tired of discussing and trying to cram my argument into 140 characters to fit into twitter. So here are my thoughts laid out about this topic. Normally I don’t really give a shit but I’m bored at work and I figured CKC needed another blog post / article.

THE STATE OF DRIFTING TO THE PUBLIC EYE

Let’s face it, drifting wasn’t introduced to the public with such a positive image. The first videos to surface to the mainstream media were probably Tokyo Drift and Initial D. Both portrayed videos of street drifting and street racing; it was a rebel sport. There were gang ties and violent and the main girl was either a prostitute or the villains bitch that the lead character is trying to win over. In real life, this dude chasing after he would be one FUCKED up dude right? Wrong! Completely normal! Well at least in a drifters world.

But I went off on a tangent there. Let’s get back to the point I was trying to prove. The glimpse mainstream media got of Drifting was a negative. Hence, the real sport of drifting was lost in this first impression and no one has gotten passed that. The mainstream media hasn’t made an effort to see passed the smoke and glamour but instead they just get the tip of the iceberg. Even till today, you’ll have the public confusing simple donuts and burnouts with “drifting”.

Now, back to “North America has no good Drifting”: which brings us forward to the past 6 years. Drifting has now made a little splash onto the mainstream media. They even touched on it a bit in Cars! Still, no one knows what the fuck drifting is. The whole competition structure is misconstrued to the point where it is too complicated for anyone to grasp its concept (even the competitors). Other racing series is simple, the first one who finishes first wins. I understand speed skating but I don’t understand fuck all about the judging structure of Figure Skating; but all I know it looks cool (no homo).

Ok so you’ve made it this far already into my blog post and you’re probably like “This dude is fucking rambling on about how no one understands drifting.”. That’s my point! For someone to make a statement saying “There is no good drifting in North America” is completely invalid. Why? They’re basing their statement off a skewed image of drifting that they’ve taken in from mainstream media that barely scratches the surface. Where in fact the top Drift Series is in North America where competitors are migrating to the USA to compete. Formula Drift is becoming the fucking NASCAR of Drifting! (non NASCAR fans please pretend that’s a good thing.)

To conclude, I’m going quote my previous tweet.

“Saying there’s no good drifting in North American without soaking in any of the culture is like a virgin describing sex from watching porn.” – CDLC

Without getting all philosophical on you, drifting and motorsports have become a large part of our lives. We eat, sleep and breathe this sport. As a result, drifting has become the fabric of our personalities, lives and relationships. So to end the philosophical bullshit, here are 10 Life Lessons Drifting has Taught Me.

10. Patience. These Goddamn staging lanes feel like an eternity.

You sit there waiting for your run and praying your car doesn’t overheat. This wait is fucking longer than microwave minutes. Especially when this dude is trying to talk to you.

9. Time Management.

Just kidding, I still don’t have my ebrake in. We would have 3 weeks to get our cars ready for an event and still, no matter what, we are up all night the night before scrambling to get it done. Sleep is for pussies.

8. Drifting Gets you Laid…

if you have tits and a vagina, and possibly if your name is Lesley. (Just Kidding. Don’t Kill me). Although, I did have a short run in with a Columbian Stripper.

edit: For all you nosey pricks questioning this, it was a joke. Poking fun at the few female drifters in the scene. There. My work is done. haha

7. Luck is your bestfriend.

Seriously, nothing ever happens in drifting for a reason.

6. Anything Can Happen. Prepare for it.

This is what keeps us drifting right? Fiddy had a torque thrown through his window. haha

5. Drugs are bad.

Even if you wanted to get high, you probably didn’t even have the money or time to do it. You’re probably out there buying parts you just broke on the last drift day.

4. Anyone will work for free Beer & Food

Especially Tires.

2. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Because Zip Tied stitched body parts are awesome. Dents and drift damage are awesome. I’m not even ashamed to drive my banged up Bimmer around. It adds character.

1.  Community

Teammates, rival crews, competitors, or whatever you may be, drifting has brought together an awesome sense of community among everyone involved. Majority of my close friends now were met through the drift scene and the circle just keeps growing. Union, Dorimoto, Drifters Anon, Drift Posse. These are all just names. It’s fucking rad how at every single event that there is no segregation between any of us. Everyone helps everyone and everyone is there to give you shit to make you better. We joke around a lot. If you can’t take it?
